Etown vs Mules

Etown (5-1) vs Muhlenberg Mules (3-1, 0-1)

No prediction for tonight’s game. I was embarrassed by my earlier prediction this week where the Philadelphia Eagles would dominate the Washington Redskins on MNF, I was so wrong I am turned off of predicting for the week, at least.

What I do know is that this game will be a defensive battle between two very physical squads. This year’s Etown team is less physical then past teams, probably on account of so many freshman, but from what I hear and see this Mules squad is big. A lot of North Jersey boys on the squad so from my experience playing against a ton of north Jersey teams growing up is they love contact.

Fun facts:
Michael Terry is sporting some form of gel in his hair to make his Mohawk look super sweet.

Liz Muller, Wes Bunting’s girlfriend, is celebrating her 22nd birthday today. Added pressure on Wes to perform well, maybe…

It was taco night in the cafeteria tonight. From my experience, Tacos + Soccer = SUCCESS.

New warm –up CD is in. Way better.

It is a beautiful night for a soccer game. And a baseball game, GO PHILLIES! (Sorry.)

Mules starters
Not that tall. Much bigger guys on the bench.

ETOWN Starters
Jeff Mullen
Michael Terry
Andrew Filewitz
George Severini
Steve Petrosky
Bryan Holt
Wes Bunting
Cameron Gettle
Matt Diller
Zach Galbraith
Tony Pacella

Mules athletic trainer is wearing a Phillies hat, I like hit lots.

45:00 Jays tap.

41:44 Hard tackle on Pacella. Ouch! Mules are rumored to be physical, I hope not dirty too.

41:15 Cross finds Michael Terry at the top of the 18 for a one time volley, wide right, good thought.

39:36 Michael Terry hardly ever loses the ball. He is such a factor in the midfield for the Jays because of his strength on the ball.

38:15 Pacella is struggling with his new position of outside halfback. He is right next to Skip so everytime the freshman is on the ball, he has Skip in his head. Not sure if that is helping or hurting him.

35:41 Diller gets stuck in very hard just past midfield. Good play by Diller, he will remain physical all game now that he has already been stuck in. Foul called on him.

34:09 Wes completes a long ball down the line to Servini. I always give Wes crap about not being able to pass and him only being good in the air, so props to him for actually using his feet to play soccer.

32:11 Filewitz megs a defender sends a cross into the box and Mules GK wins it in the air.

30:50 SUB Pacella out Mike Helsel in. Tough not for the rookie.

29:35 Great overlap by Petrosky in the corner to get a cross off into the box.

Jays are looking very comfortable on the ball. Really controlling the possession of the is game and following the game plan they have in place for tonight.

27:40 Great move by Helsel to get past the defender. His cross was AWFUL though. Sorry Mike, but COME ON!! He realizes it and has to take some crap from Skip and Graham for it.

24:55 Corner for the Jays. Filewitz will take it. Jays looked very confused on what the play was suppose to be. Wes gets called for a foul in the box because #10 on the Mules is 50 lbs. and Wes is kinda big.

18:09 SUBS Brian Raveling, Taylor Helsel, OUT Severini, Filewitz.

16:40 Taylor Helsel earns a Jays corner kick. Mike Helsel will take it. Went out of bounds on the corner.

14:46 Pet is falling down and asks the ref for a call in mid air. The ref just gives him the head shake. Winstanley gave him a 4.9 on the dive.

12:42 The Jays have committed 10 fouls, Mules 1 at this point.

11:54 Great cross by the Mules springs a one time shot, gets past Mullen Bunting clears it off the line. One time shot at the top of the 18 by the Mules had a shot at goal but Buntings skull made contact with it first. Stopped at least one goal, maybe two.

10:34 Mike Helsel gets off a great cross, one time shot by Taylor Helsel blocked, Diller shoots, save keeper. Helsel made up for the previous poor cross there as the scoring chances are finally coming in this game.

9:27 Corner kick Jays. Mike Helsel will take it. Knocked out to the top of the 18 one time hit by Holt well off the mark.

8:22 SUB Dirty in Diller out.

6:35 Corner kick Jays. Balled dropped back served into the box, Taylor Helsel finds the ball at his feet about 6 yards in front of goal, can’t get the shot off.

I am willing to bet if they tracked head balls won, Wes Bunting would beat all of DIII soccer…combined.

2:55 Ball played in the middle of the 18 on a quick counter, one time shot RIPPED upper 90. GOAL MULES. Wow, no offense all game then a sweet goal.

Etown 0 Mules 1

2:05 Mike Helsel earns a corner kick that the ref overrules with an offsides call.

:09 Great service into the box by Galbraith, almost a chance for Bunting to get on the other end of it in the box.

HALFTIME
ETOWN 0 MULES 1

2-1 Nationals over the Mets is the big talk at halftime. Can the Nats really pull off the sweep? I hope so. I haven’t been to the Phillies playoff game since 1993 when they beat the Blue Jays, I’m overdue.

Halftime interview with Wes as he got his foot operated on by the trainers, “They are soft.”

2nd Half

45:00 Mules tap.

44:34 Confusion by the Jays defense. Mules take a very very weak shot off the mistake.
41:38 Great scoring chance for Diller, shot wide left. Jays needed that to be better.

40:26 Foul on Wes about 35 yards from goal in the middle of the pitch. Played out wide and crossed swallowed up by Mullen.

39:23 Free kick Jays 35 yards out middle of the goal. Another miscommunication on the play. That’s the second one tonight.

37:51 Great touch from Filly, to Raveling right back to Filly for a cross collected by the keeper.

32:01 Galbraith plays a free kick into the box, easily collected by the keeper, Michael Terry yells at Zach that “He is 6’5!” I guess he wants that service a little lower.

27:03 Great play by Adam Scheibler to beat a double team in the corner, he drops it back to Helsel at the top of the 18 headed in by Filly! GOAAAAAAAAAL!

Etown 1 Mules 1

26:30 Momentum shift. Corner kick Jays. Filly takes it. Knocked out one time hit by Holt. Keeper drops it Wes all over the rebound and the keeper gets stuck in as well. Keeper gets the worse of it as Wes gets up he gets shoved to the ground, yellow card given to #5 on the Mules. Almost a major mistake by the keeper on that one. He paid the price though.

24:44 Wes gets stuck in on a tackle and again pushed down after the play, refs sees it but chooses to ignore it. Wes is probably going to rip someones head off soon. I’m excited.

17:26 I catch a ball in the press box. The hill cheers for me. I am just happy my laptop is okay.

16:41 Brian Raveling subs in. Skip was talking to him when the ball went out for a 6 Raves demanded the horn go off for a sub because last time he waited an eternity to sub in.

15:51 Foul by the Mules outside the 18 on the near sideline, Mules coach isn’t happy and kicks over water bottles in disgust. He felt way more manly after doing that.

13:36 Wes lost a head ball on a 6 yarder. I check to make sure the world isn’t coming to an end.

12:39 Corner kick Mules. Punched away by Mullen. Eventually cleared out.

Not much to blog about, Jays controlling the ball but unable to really get any good opportunities out of it.
3:46 Great layoff from Servini to Diller, Diller rips a shot from the 18, goalie mishandles it AGAIN Filly ALL OVER the rebound, GOAAAAAAAAAAAL!!!!!!!!

Etown 2 Mules 1

2:36 Helsel gets fouled. Helsels pissed, he attacks the player who fouls him, earns a yellow card.

GAME OVER!

Goalie cost the Mules this game.

Man of the Match: Filly, two goals, well done rookie.
Buffalo Bills Award: Adam Scheibler, great move to spring the Jays for the goal
